About the Nell's Gourmet to Go Crew

Marinell

Owner, Creative Director, Lead Cook

What is your favorite outdoor activity?
Camping — sleeping in a tent and cooking outside, reading books by the lake and telling stories around the campfire

Favorite music, band, genres?
I’ve had a fascination with the big band/swing era for a long time

Favorite food:
Fresh lemons, mushrooms, zucchini, a ripe tomato, basil — I love working with fresh ingredients. But my favorite food? Nice cheese

Favorite place you have traveled to:
Paris and Boston are my favorite cities; Glacier National Park and Grand Teton National Park are my favorite places I’ve camped

Why cooking?
Food is my love language and working with food is my creative outlet. I love knowing my cooking brings people joy. I love to create my own recipes. I also have a bit of an entrepreneurial spirit and like doing my own thing. Creating this unique kitchen has been a fun way to bring together my skills, creativity and energy

Sidney

Chef

Sidney is certified in baking and pastry, which she learned at Escoffier School of Culinary Arts and practiced at Sugarplum Cake Shop in Paris.  Following her chef’s training she returned to Rapid City to pursue a career close to her family.

Sidney loves pets (has two dogs, two cats) and admits to spoiling them with homemade treats, which they earn geocaching with Sidney and her husband, Brian. Outside of the kitchen she stays busy with family and friends with camping, year-round volleyball once a week and traveling.

If money was no object?  Sidney says she would return to Paris.

Kim

Cook & Baker

What is your favorite outdoor activity?
I love outdoor activities. Lately, I have spent as much time as possible hiking, biking, sailing, canoeing, camping and hanging with friends and family around the fire pit. I like to take my shoes off and feel the sand between my toes. I hang laundry on the line so I have more excuses to go outside

Favorite music, band, genres?
I adore music. I especially enjoy upbeat music that makes me feel like dancing. Also, I totally recommend the South Dakota Public Broadcasting radio show "Jazz Nightly" that broadcasts every weekday evening. It is the perfect ending to the day

Favorite food:
Many of my favorite foods are fruits and I simply like them fresh and cut into pieces

One thing from your bucket list:
Someday I hope to do lots of hiking in Tierra del Fuego National Park at the southern tip of South America

Favorite place you have traveled to:
I traveled to Tikal National Park in a rainforest of northern Guatemala with my niece, my brother and his family. While we walked the paths beneath the thick canopy of treetops, coatimundis skipped along nearby, playing and foraging without a concern for us.  We climbed the Mayan temples, sat atop them and gazed over the sea of treetops far below. It is a wonderful and magical place

Maycee

Social Media Manager, Closing Lead

Favorite music, band, genres?
Lately I've enjoyed listening to solo female indie/pop musicians including Maude Latour, Gracie Abrams, and Silver Sphere. My favorite genre of music is definitely classical, and I've played viola and piano since I was a kid

What do you love about your family and/or pets?
I have four sisters, and we all ended up doing very different things with our lives. I look up to them so much and always have a strong support network of people to go to when I need advice. My family also raises chickens, allowing us to enjoy delicious farm fresh eggs

Favorite food or ingredients?
At the freshman dining hall at my college, every Sunday they would bake fresh sourdough bread to serve with dinner. I feel like it's impossible to go wrong with a sourdough baguette. My favorite ingredients would have to be garlic and ginger

Favorite place you have traveled to?
I visited Italy as a part of a scholarship program the summer of 2019. We spent a week in Rome and then traveled through the countryside. It was so beautiful and I loved all of the art, history, and food

What do you like about working with food?
My whole life cooking and baking have been one of my favorite pastimes. I love how much working with food gives me the opportunity to be creative and try new things. It is so rewarding to put a lot of time and energy into a dish and see it turn out the way I had envisioned it
